Abstract
A gas sensor including a reduction section () for reducing NOcontained in exhaust gas to NO. The reduction section () is provided on the upstream side of a first diffusion resistor section () which limits the flow of the exhaust gas into a first measurement chamber (). When NOpasses through the first diffusion resistor section (), NOwhich has a greater molecular weight than NO has a lower degree of diffusion. Since NOis reduced to NO at the reduction section (), the exhaust gas passing through the first diffusion resistor section () hardly contains NO. Therefore, the speed of flow of NOthrough the first diffusion resistor section () is not limited by NO, whereby sensitivity for detection of NOcan be improved.
