Abstract

[Object] To provide a light source device which allows the lighting starting properties of a high-pressure discharge lamp to be reliably improved without increasing the entire length of the light source device and exposing an auxiliary lamp to the outside. [Solution] A light source deviceincludes: a high-pressure discharge lamp; a bowl-shaped reflectorhaving an insertion holewhich is formed in a bottom portionand in which a sealing portionis inserted, an inner space, and a reflection surfaceformed on an inner surface thereof; an auxiliary lampwhich emits ultraviolet rays UV; and a basehaving formed therein an accommodation spacein which the auxiliary lampis accommodated between the baseand the outer side of the bottom portion. The object can be achieved by setting a thickness t of the bottom portionto be small such that an outer end portionof the sealing portioninserted in the insertion holeprojects into the accommodation spaceof the baseand such that the entirety of an ultraviolet ray emitting spaceof the auxiliary lamplocated along the side surface of the sealing portionfaces the sealing portionin the accommodation space
