A 1,2,4,5-substituted phenyl compound represented by the formula (1): wherein one of X-Xis nitrogen and the remainders of X-Xare carbon; Rand Rrepresent hydrogen, Calkyl or Calkoxy; Rand Rrepresent Calkyl or Calkoxy; and m is an integer of 0-4, and n is an integer of 0-5. This compound is useful as a constituent for an organic electroluminescent device.
