Abstract

A backlight unit () of a display device () having a liquid crystal display panel () is provided with a chassis (), a diffusion plate () supported by the chassis, and a light source which irradiates the diffusion plate with light. The light source is constructed by combining a plurality of mounting substrates () provided with an LED () which serves as the light-emitting element and a diffusion lens () for covering the LED. Connectors (A) are mounted on matching edges of the plurality of mounting substrates to electrically connect the substrates. The connectors are placed so as not to interfere with the illumination light region in which the LED imparts brightness to the diffusion plate. In order to achieve this state of non-interference, a beveled part () is formed on the side of the connectors facing the LED.
