Abstract
A wheel bearing apparatus of a semi-floating type has a pilot portionon an outer member. The pilot portion includes a cylindrical portionand a tapered portion. The tapered portiongradually decreases in diameter from the cylindrical portionto an end surface of the inboard side. A fitting portionof an axle housingcorresponds to the shape of the pilot portion. An annular grooveis formed at the tapered portionof the pilot portion. A seal ringis mounted in the annular groove. An outer diameter dof the seal ring, after mounting, is set smaller than an inner diameter dof the cylindrical portionof the axle housingThe seal ring elastically contacts the axle housing. A slight gap of a fitting portion between the outer memberand the axle housingis blocked off.
