Disclosed is a proportional controller that utilizes a deflected metal cantilever that provides a progressive change in capacitance for a given deflection that is used to generate a proportional control signal. In addition, a efficient step-up converteris disclosed, which is capable of operating with a single alkaline cell. Further, a LED drive circuit is disclosed that has high efficiency and is capable of driving an infrared LED with a single alkaline cell.
