Abstract
A liquid crystalline coating solution which comprises: an azo compound represented by the following general formula (1); and a solvent to dissolve the azo compound: wherein Qis an aryl group which may have any substituent group; Qis an arylene group which may have any substituent group; R is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms, an acetyl group, a benzoyl group, or a phenyl group (these groups may have any substituent groups); and M is a counter ion.
