Disclosed is a position detection system capable of detecting the position of a line-shaped object. From among two connected lines (EEand E'E′) created by connecting opposed intersecting points among four interesting points (E, E, E′, and E′), a position detection unit () treats the one connected line (EE) with a length closer to the overall length of a rod (ST) as the position of the rod (ST) that overlaps a coordinate map region (MA).
