Abstract

An ID barcode printing sectionprints IDs for identifying arrived mails. An address recognition sectionrecognizes address information for the primary sorting and the secondary sorting from the address images photographed by an image input sectionfor saving in an ID database. Based on the recognized primary sorting address information, the sorting control sectionsorts the mails in a sorting boxthat corresponds to a secondary sorting post office. Upon filling up the sorting boxes, the mails therein are transferred to a transportation medium. An ID writing sectionwrites secondary sorting address information of the mails in the transportation medium that is read from an ID databasefor recording on the transportation medium. Upon reading the address information that is recorded on the transportation medium by an ID information read-out section, a sorting control sectionin the secondary sorting post officeacquires the address information on each mail in the transportation medium for sorting each mail in sorting boxesfor delivery address.
