Abstract

The invention relates to a peptide or peptide derivative having the general formula: Sub-X-DK-P-P-Y-L-P-R-P-X-P-P-R-X-I-P/Y-N-N-X-Sub, wherein Xis a non-polar, hydrophobic group or a positively charged group, Dis asparagine or glutamine, K, X, and Xare positively charged groups, Xis a positively charged group, proline, or a proline derivative; Land Iare non-polar, hydrophobic groups, Yand Yare tyrosine, Rand Rare arginine, Nand Nare asparagine or glutamine, P, P, P, P, P, P, and Pare proline, hydroxyproline, or derivatives thereof, wherein possibly one or two of the groups selected from D, P, P, P, P, P, P, P, and Yare replaced by an arbitrary group and/or Pand Rare exchanged, Subis the free or modified N-terminus, and Subis the free or modified C-terminus. The invention further relates to the use of the peptides and peptide derivatives in medicine, as an antibiotic, in a disinfectant or cleaning agent, as a preservative or in a packaging material, in pharmaceutical research, or in a screening method.
