Abstract
A backlight unitincludes a chassis, a plurality of cold cathode tubes, an optical memberand a plurality of support members. The chassishas an opening on a light exit side. The cold cathode tubesare light sources arranged in a parallel layout and housed in the chassis. The optical memberis arranged on the light exit side outer than the cold cathode tubesso as to cover the opening of the chassis. The support membersare arranged in a parallel layout along a parallel arrangement direction of the cold cathode tubes. The support membersare formed such that support positions of the optical memberare relatively closer to the cold cathode tubesaround the center and relatively farther from the cold cathode tubesnear the edges. The cold cathode tubesare arranged at relatively smaller intervals around the center and at relatively larger intervals near the edges.
