Abstract
In a machine tool, a column base () is supported on a bed () movably in a horizontal direction, and a column () is installed vertically on the column base (). A saddle () is supported on a side of the column () movably in a vertical direction, and a ram stock () is supported on the saddle () movably in a horizontal direction. A main spindle () is rotatably supported by the ram stock (). A weight () is supported in the column () movably in a direction parallel to the ram stock (), so that the weight () can be moved horizontally by a servo motor (). An NC device () moves the weight () by the servo motor () synchronously with a movement of the ram stock (), to adjust balance of the column (), thereby enabling to reduce the size of an apparatus and realize space saving.
