Abstract

A basestationprovides coverage for voice and data services within a building using GSM/GPRS and UMTS interfaces within existing networks, allowing use of existing mobile phones. The basestation also provides flexible interfacing to the network operator's core networkvia the Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) standards as opposed to the usual Iub (UMTS) or Abis (GSM) interfaces used by conventional cellular basestations. Backhaul from the basestation units is achieved through the use of Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) connections over fixed telephone lines. This approach enables low-cost transport of data and voice using VoIP.
