Abstract

Optical information recording mediumcomprises: a plurality of recording layerswhich undergo a change in refractive index by irradiation with recording beam; and an intermediate layerprovided between the recording layers. The intermediate layerincludes first intermediate layerA disposed adjacent to a recording layerat a side opposite to an incident side from which recording beam enters the recording layer, and second intermediate layerB disposed adjacent to a recording layerat an incident side from which the recording beam enters the recording layer. The first intermediate layerA and the recording layerhave different refractive indices, whereas the second intermediate layerB and the recording layerhave substantially the same refractive index. The first and the second intermediate layerA,B are merged with each other at an interface therebetween, whereby refractive index gradually changes at the interface.
