The invention relates to an airbag protection device () for a vehicle occupant restraint system that includes an airbag mounting device (). The airbag mounting device () includes first and second mounting members () which are mounted to the vehicle () spaced apart from each other and a cross-member () made of bent wire. An airbag () is mounted to the cross-member () in the folded state.
