Abstract

A mantissa/exponent splitter splits an input value X=(1+X/2)×(2^X) into a mantissa Xand an exponent X. An interpolation processor references the mantissa/exponent splitter using the mantissa Xand determines a power value (log(1+X/2)) through an interpolation process. A logarithmic calculator determines a logarithmic value Z=logX=Y(X+log(1+X/2)) from the exponent Xand the power value from the interpolation processor. The integer/fraction splitter splits the logarithmic value Z into an integer Zand a fraction Z. The interpolation processor references a power of fraction table storage unit in response to the fraction Zand determines a power value (2^Z) through the interpolation process. The power calculator determines X=2^Z=(2^Z)×(2^Z), thereby resulting in the input value X to the power of Y.
