Abstract

An approach is provided that displays visual indicators on a financial services card, such as a credit or debit card, that indicates the user's balance at a financial services provider. Available funds data is received at a financial services card that includes visual indicators (e.g., LEDs, etc.), a memory, a processor, a power source, and a wireless transmitter. The available funds data is received via the wireless transmitter. Visual indicators are selected based on the available funds data received from the financial services provider. The selected visual indicators are activated by providing power to the indicators from the power source. In one embodiment, the power source is a piezoelectric material, such as a piezoelectric crystal, that generates power to activate the visual indicators and run the processors and wireless transmitter based on manipulation of the card (e.g., applying pressure, etc. to the card) by the user.
