Abstract

The invention relates to an optical network element ('), particularly optical line terminal, OLT, or remote node, RN, for transmitting and/or receiving data via an optical network () that comprises at least one optical fiber link (), wherein said optical network element (′) has a primary optical interface () configured to be connected with said optical fiber link () to transmit and/or receive data to/from said optical network (). The inventive optical network element () is characterized by at least one secondary optical interface () configured to provide optical pump power (PPa, PPb) to at least one further network element (RN, RN; RNa, RNr) via a further optical fiber link (), preferably a dedicated pump fiber link, thus enabling true scalability of the optical network () regarding network size, particularly link length and the number of remote nodes.
