Abstract
Disclosed is a method of compressing an image () using one of a plurality of candidate compression methods (), said method comprising the steps of (a) processing a portion of the image to determine, for at least some of the candidate compression methods, associated compressibility scores () and corresponding pairs of thresholds (), the compressibility scores and the pairs of thresholds being dependent upon the proportion of the image that has been processed, (b) comparing () the compressibility scores to the corresponding pairs of thresholds, (c) selecting (), if a compressibility score satisfies the corresponding pair of thresholds, the associated candidate compression method, and (d) compressing the image () using the selected candidate compression method.
