Abstract

In a wireless ad hoc network () of nodes (), a method () of power management entails monitoring () a current traffic load of the network (), and in response to the current traffic load, selecting () a subset () of epochs () within cyclically repeating time windows () for network communication. A message () is communicated () between the nodes () in the network (). The message () identifies the subset () of epochs () for using in communicating network traffic (). Following receipt of the message, each of the nodes () modifies () a transmit capability mode by entering a run state () during the epochs () within the subset () to enable communication of network traffic () and by entering a low power consumption idle state () during the remaining epochs () within the time window ().
