Abstract
A profile of a cam () of a camshaft () is set based on a relationship of a stop position of a vane rotor () at a most retarded phase relative to a housing rotor (). In other words, the profile of the cam () arranged in the camshaft () is set so that a second opening (B) of a communication passage (), which opens in a second retardment chamber (B), is located upward in a vertical direction from the axis C of the camshaft () when the camshaft () is at a neutral position, that is, when torque applied from the cam () to the camshaft () is the smallest.
