Abstract

To provide a yellow to orange phosphor which has high luminance and excellent temperature characteristics and which also has high luminance when mixed with a phosphor of a different color. A phosphor containing a crystal phase represented by the following formula [I], wherein when its object color is expressed by the L*a*b* color system, the values of a*, b* and (a*+b*)satisfy −20≦a*≦−2, 71≦b* and 71≦(a*+b*), respectively:RMASiAlON  [I].
