A compound having a triptycene moiety represented by formula (1) is disclosed. In the formula, Aand Arepresent —S—, —O—, —CO—, or —NR—; Rand Rrepresent a substituent; n is an integer from 0 to 2; Rand Ran electron-withdrawing group having a Hammett's substituent constant σof equal to or more than 0; L, L, Land Lrepresent a single bond or a divalent group selected from the group consisting of —O—, —S—, —S(═O)—, —CO—, —OCO—, —COO—, —OCOO— and —NR— where Rrepresents a Calkyl group or hydrogen atom, —CH— and any combinations thereof; Zand Zrepresent a divalent 5- or 6-membered cyclic linking group; Rand Rrepresent a hydrogen atom or substituted or non-substituted alkyl group; and m1 and m2 each respectively represent an integer of from 0 to 2.
