An L.E.D. light emitting assembly () includes an aluminum heat sink () presenting a mounting surface () with light emitting diodes () disposed thereon. A thermoplastic housing () is disposed over the heat sink () and presents a top surface () facing outwardly. An electronics enclosure () is disposed on the top surface (). A solar shield () extends over and spaced from the electronics enclosure (). The solar shield () includes a closed solar top wall () and solar side walls (). The solar shield () defines an air inlet () adjacent a lower edge () of each of the solar side walls () and an air outlet () above the air inlet () at open solar ends () thereof for creating a chimney effect to move ambient air into the air inlet () and through an air flow space () to exit the air outlet ().
