Abstract
A wireless communication system () and method for providing high speed uplink packet access from user equipment () to a base station (). Each of the user equipment () and the base station () includes a transmitter (), a receiver (), and a controller () coupled to the transmitter and the receiver. Data packets are transmitted from the user equipment () to the base station (). Control information, corresponding to the data packets, is transmitted from the base station () to the user equipment (). The control information includes at least a control channel acknowledgement field in an absolute grant channel assigned to the user equipment (). The controller () of the user equipment () is configured to utilize the channelization code(s) in response to handoff and/or entering an active channel state.
