Steering apparatus

Abstract

A steering apparatus has a column, a columnfitted to the columnand able to make collapsing movement or move, a bracketattached to a vehicle body in such a way that it can be detached with the columnby an impact force of a secondary collision, a guide bracketfixed to the columnand having a guide groove, and a pinfixed to the bracketand movable with the bracketwhile being guided by the guide groove. The guide brackethas a flat plate portionthat is not contact with the bracket. A guide grooveis provided in the flat plate portion. The pinhas a head portionat the top having a diameter larger than its shaft portion. The apparatus has a gap setting portion that is in abutment with the upper surface of the bracketwhen the pinis fixed to the bracketto set the distance between the lower surface of the head portionand the upper surface of the bracketto a predetermined value. Thus, there is provided a steering apparatus in which the detaching force upon detachment of the columnin the forward direction with respect to the vehicle body by the impact force of a secondary collision can be adjusted accurately with an easy detaching force adjusting operation.
