Abstract
The invention refers to a method of determining a channel quality of a communication channel between a wireless transmitter and a wireless receiver, comprising receiving a transport block with one or a plurality of a modulation symbols (y, . . . , y) comprising a plurality of encoded information bits (x, . . . , x), de-mapping the modulation symbols to a plurality of soft values (LLR, . . . , LLR), calculating a mutual information—MI—measure (MI) as a function of the plurality of soft values (LLR, . . . , LLR), wherein the MI measure is indicative of a mutual dependence between the information bits (x, . . . , x) and the corresponding soft values of said transport block, and determining a channel quality indication value (CQI-Index) as a function of the MI measure (MI). The invention further refers to a program and to a wireless receiver for performing the method.
