Abstract
A method for connecting optical fibers and a connection structure of optical fibers capable of suppressing axial misalignment between cores in end-to-end connection of optical fibers at least one of which has a clad for a non-circular shape. The method includes: a preparing step of preparing a pair of optical fibersincluding a first optical fiberhaving a cladof a non-circular shape and a second optical fiberhaving a cladof a circular shape; a forming step of forming the cladof the first optical fiberat and near one endthereof to have a more circular shape from the non-circular shape; an aligning step of observing in side view the first and second optical fibersand aligning a coreof the first optical fiberat and near the one endthereof and a coreof the second optical fiberat and near one endthereof in a straight line; and a fusing step of butting the one endof the first optical fiberand the one endof the second optical fiberagainst each other and fusing the ends together.
