Abstract

The disclosure provides a molecular genetic approach of targeted mutagenesis and heterologous expression, coupled with in vitro and in vivo models of bacterial pathogenesis, to demonstrate that thepigment is a virulence factor and potential novel target for antimicrobial therapy.
