A molten and cast refractory material having a chemical composition, in weight percent on the basis of oxides, of: —AlO: the remainder up to 100%; —MgO: 28% to 50%; —CuO: 0.05% to 1.0%; —BO: ≦1.0%; —SiO: <0.5%; —NaO+KO: <0.3%; —CaO: <1.0%; —FeO+TiO: <0.55%; —and other oxide species: <0.5%.
