A process for the capture of COfrom gas streams comprising contacting a COcontaining gas stream with an aqueous alkanolamine solution, wherein the alkanolamine is selected from the group consisting of: 3-piperidinemethanol, Tricine, 3-quinuclidinol, 3-piperidino-1,2-propanediol and their salts.
