Abstract

A known glandincludes first and second membersand. Prior art seals(FIGS.A andB),(FIG.A andB) or(FIG.) can be used to seal the gland. Also, a novel, double acting, over center cone, articulating compression seal(FIGS.and) can be used to seal the gland. The sealincludes a base, an articulating compression arm, and a rocker. The armis connected to the baseat one hinge regionand to the rockerat another hinge region. The articulating compression armis cone shaped, and the cone inverts as the sealis displaced from a relaxed position (FIG.) to a sealed position (FIG.). The rockerextends radially and longitudinally in the relaxed position and extends longitudinally in the sealing position.
