Lift system () with a lower lift cage (K), an upper lift cage (K), at least one counterweight (), and support means (TA, TB) for supporting the lower and upper lift cages (K, K). The support means (TB) for supporting the lower lift cage (K) are led downwardly in the lift shaft () laterally along the upper lift cage (K). Drive means for driving the lower and upper lift cages (K, K) are present.
