Abstract

To prevent occurrence of display roughness in a PSA-type liquid crystal display device, a liquid crystal display device of the present invention includes: a first substratewhich includes a signal linefor supplying a display signal to thin film transistors, an insulating layerprovided on the signal line, and pixel electrodesprovided in a matrix arrangement; a second substratewhich includes a counter electrode; a liquid crystal layerinterposed between the first substrateand the second substrate; a vertical alignment filmprovided between the first substrateand the liquid crystal layer; and an alignment sustaining layerprovided between the vertical alignment filmand the liquid crystal layerfor regulating an orientation of liquid crystal moleculesincluded in the liquid crystal layer. In a region extending between two of the pixel electrodesand extending over the signal line, the insulating layerhas a first elevated portionextending along the signal lineand protruding above the pixel electrodestoward the liquid crystal layer
