Abstract
In a display backlight () a specular partial reflector () is placed between a circular-mode reflective polarizer () and an illumination device (). The specular partial reflector () recycles otherwise unused polarized light (L) reflected from the circular-mode reflective polarizer () which results in an optimized backlight brightness. The main application of the backlight () is in liquid crystal displays ().
