An image reading and transmitting apparatus which is capable of permitting quick checking of image data read and stored and quickly transmitting the image data after the checking. An image readerreads an image, an input devicereceives an instruction to check the data of the image read by the image reader, and a central processing unit (CPU)generates image checking data based on the data of the image read by the image reader, irrespective of whether the instruction has been received or not by the input device
