Abstract

A container sealing apparatuscomprises an electrically conductive linearly displaceable cutting memberoperable to cut a portionof sealing material from a weband an independently linearly displaceable transfer membercomprising an electrically insulating material and extendible relative to the cutting memberto transfer the cut portionof sealing material to an open top of a containerto be sealed. An induction coilproduces an induction fieldfor heating the cut portionof sealing material, either directly or indirectly, by induction heating to seal the cut portionof sealing material to the open top of the container. The linearly displaceable transfer memberholds the cut portionof sealing material against the open top of the containerduring induction heating. A field concentratoris provided to concentrate the induction fieldin a desired region away from the linearly displaceable electrically conductive cutting memberand other electrically conductive component parts of the apparatusto optimize the induction heating of the cut portionof sealing material.
