An organic electrolyte solvent includes a compound of the formula: R—SO—NR—ORwherein Ris selected from alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, aryls and their substituted derivatives and perfluorinated analogues; Ris selected from alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, aryls and their substituted derivatives; Ris selected from alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, aryls and their substituted derivatives wherein the electrolyte solvent is stable at voltages of greater than 4.0 volts.
