Abstract
A power supply system S comprising a power processor, having a power inputand an AC power outputwith a nominal voltage Vand a nominal current I, and a power supply safety circuitconnected in parallel to said power processorbetween said power inputand said AC power output. The purpose of the power supply safety circuitis to provide an additional current in case of a short circuit condition downstream of the AC power output, so as to trigger the opening of an individual circuit breakerconnected to the short circuited load. For this purpose the power supply safety circuitcomprises a bidirectional switch, control meansfor closing said bidirectional switchafter detecting a short circuit condition downstream of the AC power outputand a current limiter, preferably an impedance, connected in series to said bidirectional switchto limit the current that can flow through the power backup circuitto a maximum current of αIwherein α has a value between 5 and 20, preferably between 7 and 13, and most preferably about 10. The invention also comprises a method of operation of said power supply system S.
