A money handling system includes: a sort pattern setting unitconfigured to set a sort pattern showing one or more denominations of the banknotes to be sorted into the stacking units; a storage unitconfigured to store the sort pattern set by the sort pattern setting unit, and to store a recognition result and a count result by the recognition uniton the banknotes stacked in the stacking units; and a control unitconfigured to control the transport unitso as to transport the banknotes respectively to the stacking unitsand the reject unit, based on the recognition result by the recognition unitand the sort pattern stored in the storage unit
