Abstract
An exhaust emission control device has a particulate filterand a selective reduction catalystarranged side by side. An S-shaped communication passageis arranged for introduction of exhaust gasfrom a rear end of the filterto a front end of the adjacent catalystin a forward fold-back manner and with a urea water addition injectorarranged midway of the passage. In order to satisfactorily disperse the urea water with enhanced mixing with the exhaust gaseven if the flow rate is increased, slitsare formed in circumferentially spaced positions on a rear end of a mixing pipeB constituting an upstream portion of the communication passageso as to introduce the exhaust gas. A downstream endof a gas gathering chamberA is connected to the rear end of the mixing pipeB such that the slitsare encased and the rear end of the mixing pipeB is closed.
