Abstract

A separatorfor separating solids, such as grit, from an influent, such as water, the tray assemblycomprising a plurality of nested tray unitswhich are spaced apart from one another along a vertical separator axis. Each tray unitcomprises a substantially conical tray, an aperturein the apex of the tray, and a means for restricting flow through the respective aperture, such as a baffledisposed at or adjacent the aperture. In use, grit is separated from water circulating among the traysand falls through successive aperturesin each of the trays to exit through the bottom of the tray assembly. The bafflesrestrict upward flow through the aperturesin the traysthereby reducing agitation of the grit.
