Abstract
An instrument power controller () for adaptively providing an output voltage Vand an output current Ithat together maintain a substantially constant electrical output power Pis provided. The controller () includes inputs () for receiving an input power P, outputs () for providing the substantially constant output power Pto a variable impedance load L, and a communication path () for receiving a load voltage V. The instrument power controller () is configured to determine an input voltage Vand an input current I, determine an effective resistance Rof the load L and set the output voltage Vand the output current Ibased on the input voltage V, the input current I, and the effective resistance R. The output voltage Vis substantially independent from the input voltage V. The output voltage Vand the output current Iare varied to maximize a load power Pwhile maintaining the substantially constant electrical output power P.
