Abstract

On a pneumatic tire provided with a lug-grooved ribhaving a circumferentially continuous rib portionand wing portionsdefined by lug grooves, chamfersof depth Dand width Lare formed on the wing portionson the side facing a circumferential groove. At the same time, the depth Dand the width Lof the chamfersare so set that the ratio of the chamfer depth Dto the groove depth Dof the circumferential groovesatisfies 0.015≦(D/D)≦0.200 and the ratio of the chamfer width Lto the axial length Lof the lug groovessatisfies 0.1≦(L/L)≦0.85, so that the load to be borne by the wing portionsis effectively shifted to the rib portion. In this manner, the pitch noise caused by the lug grooves can be reduced without changing the basic features of the tread pattern, and thus the quietness of vehicular operation is improved.
