Abstract

A glow plug assembly () has a metallic heater probe () supported within a metal shell (). A transition zone () at the base of the shell () includes a membrane () and a tube portion (). A first open end () of the heater probe () is formed with a reduced diameter pilot section () that mates with the tube portion () to establish a joint area between the components. The membrane () may be made elastically deflectable so as to accommodate integration of a pressure sensor () in the glow plug assembly ().
