Abstract

A method for maintaining a transmission during a channel fade is described. Data is transmitted on a first traffic channel associated with a first signal. A second signal with a signal strength that is greater than the signal strength of the first signal is detected. A transmitter is disabled if Nm is triggered. The triggering of Nm indicates the presence of a channel fade for a predetermined first time period. The second signal is monitored for a predetermined second time period. Data is transmitted on a second traffic channel associated with the second signal at the expiration of the second time period.
