An exhaust gas control apparatus for an internal combustion engine, including a three-way catalyst, a NOstorage-reduction catalyst, a rich controlling mechanism performing control to make an air-fuel ratio of exhaust gas rich to reduce NOstored in the NOstorage-reduction catalyst, and a control performing control to ensure that a NOpurifying component is present in the NOstorage-reduction catalyst when reducing the NO.
