A pump includes a cutting impeller () and a pre-chopper () driven by a shaft portion () that projects axially from the cutting impeller (), with the pre-chopper () being surrounded by an intake port () of the pump, the intake port having, at least on a part of its length, in the vicinity of the pre-chopper, a non-circular internal cross-section.
