An image display device capable of detecting an object in a space where aD visualized image is formed without feeling the existence of a mechanism for position detection. The image display device includes: display unit () for displaying aD image (); an optical panel () arranged in front of an image display plane () of the display unit () and forming aD visualized image () based on theD image () in a forward space () spreading in front of the optical panel (); recognition unit arranged behind the optical panel () for optically recognizing the an object () coming into the forward space () via the optical panel (); and position detection elements () for detecting the coming position of the object () into the forward space () according to the recognition result by the recognition unit.
