Abstract

An embolic protection systemcomprises a guidewirefor advancing through a vasculature, the guidewirehaving a distal end and a proximal end; an embolic protection filterhaving a filter bodywith a distal end and a proximal end, the filter bodyproviding for a collapsed configuration and an expanded deployed configuration. The embolic protection filter bodyhas a guidewire path for slidably receiving the guidewireto permit movement of the filterrelative to the guidewirewhen the filteris in the collapsed configuration and the expanded deployed configuration. A delivery catheteris advanceable over the guidewirefor delivery of the embolic protection filter; the delivery catheterhaving a proximal end and a distal end. The filteris deployed from the distal end of the delivery catheterinto the expanded deployed configuration. A retrieval catheteris also advanceable over the guidewirefor retrieval of the filter, the retrieval catheterhaving a distal end and a proximal end; and engagement elements for engaging the embolic protection filterwith the guidewirefor retrieval of the filterinto the retrieval catheterin the collapsed configuration.
